Italian Director Cools Napoli’s Interest in Super Eagles Star

Italian sporting director Enrico Fedele has poured cold water on reports linking Napoli with a summer move for highly sought-after Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman.

Recent reports from numerous media outlets have credited a number of top European clubs including Juventus, Liverpool and Napoli with concrete interest in the services of the Nigeria international.

However, Fedele has categorically dismissed talks on Napoli’s interest in the reigning Africa Best Player of the Year, insisting that the Partenopei sporting director Giovanni Manna is focusing on other targets ahead of the summer transfer window.

“Lookman to Napoli? No, there is no chance that this deal will go through. I don’t see why these rumours should be spread,” Fedele said on Tele A’s Fuorigioco program as per Area Napoli.

“I have been in the world of football for about fifty years and have developed several relationships. I can tell you that Giovanni Manna, Sporting Director of Napoli, is on the trail of another player: Solet. Trust me: he is really strong, very strong.”

Despite Lookman’s impressive form this season, with the winger recording 15 goals and six assists in 28 matches his future at Bergamo remains uncertain.

Reports suggest his relationship with head coach Gian Piero Gasperini has soured after that missed penalty in the Champions League match against Club Brugge, further fueling speculation about a potential summer departure.

With his contract running until 2026, Atalanta, who currently value the Nigerian wideman at €60 million, may have to settle for a lower fee if they fail to convince him to sign a contract extension.
