Enugu Rangers head coach Ekeh Ekenedilichukwu has expressed delight with his side’s victory over Kwara United in the Nigerian Premier Football League on Saturday.
The defending champions produced a superb performance at the Cathedral in Enugu with a resounding 3-0 win over their opponents.
The Flying Antelopes took an early lead in the game when Chiedozie Okorie dribbled past the goalkeeper before slotting into the net in the second minute.
They doubled their lead before halftime through another strike from midfielder Isaac Johnson Saviour, following a swift counterattack.
Ekenedilichukwu, speaking after the match said, “It was a good day in the office for our players, a complete turnaround from last weekend. We created numerous chances and converted three, which is a huge boost. We remain positive about finishing the season strongly.”
The eight-time champions got a third goal in the 62nd minute as Frank Uwumiro capitalized on a defensive mistake to increase their lead.
The victory propelled the league champions to fourth on the log, although they are 12 points behind league leaders Remo Stars with nine games to the end of the season.
“Today, we played well, and it was a good result. Against Akwa United, we tried to get three points but couldn’t. Today, we got the win,” he added.
Before the victory, they had been winless in their previous two matches, losing away at Kano Pillars before a disappointing 1-1 draw at home against Akwa United.
The victory comes as a big boost for their continental aspirations, as they look to represent the nation in next season’s CAF competitions.
Ekenedilichukwu and his boys will next be in action when they travel to face Nasarawa United next Sunday.
