Ex-Barcelona star Amuneke fires warning ahead of Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers

Former Nigeria Professional footballer Emmanuel Amuneke has warned the Super Eagles to anticipate a difficult task ahead of their all-important 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe on March 21 and 22 respectively.

Nigeria find themselves in a tight spot heading into these fixtures after managing a measly three points from four games. They currently sit in fifth position, four points adrift of first place and face the possibility of missing out on a World Cup ticket unless they record victories against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

In a bid to get Nigeria’s campaign back on track, new Super Eagles boss Eric Chelle has called-up a very strong squad ahead of his first couple of games in charge. With the bulk of the invited players currently enjoying fine form for their various club sides, many fans are anticipating an easy win for the West African giants.

Amuneke, who won 28 caps for Nigeria and enjoyed Copa del Rey success with Barcelona during his playing career, also hopes the Super Eagles can record two victories. However, he warned that it will be no easy task.

“I hope we make it to the World Cup. I wish them the very best of luck and I hope in their upcoming games they are able to win their games,” Amuneke told Modo Victor.

“We must be realistic, its a very difficult task, but everything is possible in football. I hope they can be able to start winning against Rwanda.”

Having suffered defeat against Rwanda in their most recent meeting, the Super Eagles will be out to get their pound of flesh when both nations meet again in Kigali. With the current form of key attacking stars like Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Alex Iwobi, the stage looks set for the Super Eagles to go out and shine.
