Paul Onuachu has described Southampton’s 2-1 home defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers as ‘disappointing’.
Having lost their last five matches across all competitions, the Saints hosted Vítor Pereira’s men aiming to arrest their lifeless form.
However, the visitors had other plans, securing all three points with Jorgen Strand Larsen’s brace. The Nigeria international pulled one back in the 75th minute, but it proved to be in vain.
In his post-match assessment, Onuachu stated that his team deserved to win, having dominated the match at Molineux Stadium. For him, losing after ending his home goal drought was far from satisfactory.
“It’s difficult scoring my first goal in front of the [home] fans and we’re losing, it’s not good enough and we need to do better as a team and individually,” Onuachu told the club website.
“We had a good start in the first 20 minutes but it’s difficult to explain this loss because we’re playing on our home ground and we had the feeling we were going to beat Wolves.
“You could see we were the better team, even though we lost. It’s just not good enough.
“For the fans, for the team it’s good to get the goal, but we lost, I’m not really pleased because we have to win this game and it’s very disappointing.”
Next up for Southampton is a home game against Crystal Palace on April 2. They currently sit at the bottom of the Premier League table, having earned just nine points from 29 matches played so far.
