NPFL: Coach Ogunbote laments 3SC’s dismal form

Shooting Stars head coach Gbenga Ogunbote has expressed concern about the team’s recent slump, after their winless run was extended to seven games with a 2-0 loss at Akwa United on Sunday.

The Oluyole Warriors came into the second half of the season second on the log after an impressive start to the season.

However, lack of concentration and poor showing from players has seen them drop to sixth and out of continental spots ahead of next season.

After a lone goal victory over Bendel Insurance on the 8th of February, Gbenga Ogunbote’s side have gone seven games without victory, losing four games with three draws.

Speaking after the defeat on Sunday, the former Sunshine Stars coach attributed the loss to carelessness while assuring fans of an improvement in their performance in subsequent matches.

“We did everything possible but sometimes you have careless moments. This wasn’t the true picture of the game but we lost”, Ogunbote said.

“All we need to do is to go back and see where we got it wrong and start to get to winning ways.”

The Ibadan-based club are now sixth on the Nigerian Premier Football League standings with 43 points, although they are just two points behind fourth-placed Ikorodu City.

They have also failed to score in their last three league games, with questions being asked about their faltering attack.

“Football is not won with beauty alone; it has to be a good game, which means beauty in the game plus success.

Unfortunately, in the second half, we had lots of careless moments. We will give it a fight until the end”, he added.

Gbenga Ogunbote and his boys will hope to regain momentum, when they host 10th-placed Niger Tornadoes in a must-win encounter at the Lekan Salami Stadium next Sunday.
