Southampton midfielder Joe Aribo has expressed disappointed at the club’s struggles this season.
The Saints currently occupy the bottom spot on the English Premier League standings this season with nine points from their first 29 matches, and are in danger of a worst-ever finish in the league.
After securing promotion by defeating Leeds United 1-0 in the Championship playoffs final, they have struggled this season and are on course for a swift return to the second division.
Despite the arrival of Ivan Juric in December to replace Russell Martin in a bid to steady the ship, their struggles has continued and Aribo has shared his thoughts about their slump.
“Speaking for myself, it’s embarrassing. We play football to win,” the Super Eagles star told the Daily Echo.
“I’m a winner, and this is a tough time in my career, especially with the results we’ve been getting. But we have to stick together as a team.”
Southampton have won just two games in the league all season, a lone goal victory over Everton in early November and a 2-1 win at fellow strugglers Ipswich Town in February.
Their losing streak was increased to six games in all competitions as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Wolves last weekend.
Aribo who has featured 28 times in the league scoring three goals, believes the team can salvage their poor season with determination.
“We need to work hard, take each game as it comes, and stay focused. After the break, we’ll have another chance to get a win, and that’s what we need to do”, he continued.
After the international break, the Saints host Crystal Palace on the 2nd of April before traveling to North London to face Tottenham Hotspur four days later, in two must-win encounters in a bid to salvage a faltering campaign.
