Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has stated that he is ready to explore new opportunities upon expiry of his current contract at the end of the season.
The 33-year old who joined the Red Devils in 2022 as a free agent under former Dutch boss Erik Ten Hag, is expected to leave the club next summer with no offer for an extension.
“I haven’t been told anything and since I haven’t, I assume the collaboration will end,” he said in an interview to Danish outlet TV2.
“That’s how I interpret it. Everyone knows my contract is expiring, so I expect there’s only one way this will go.”
Eriksen has made 27 appearances in all competitions this season, but has only played 14 times under Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim who joined the club in November, with six as a starter.
The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has however started two of the Red Devils’ last three games including Sunday’s 3-0 win over Leicester City, striking the frame of the goal with an audacious attempt in the first half.
“I haven’t thought much about it. In my mind, I’m prepared to find something new. What that will be, I haven’t decided yet,” Eriksen added.
“I don’t have anything specific that I really want to try, so I’ll see what comes along and what fits me and my family.”
Despite an illustrious playing career spanning spells across Netherlands, England and Italy, the Denmark international also stated he is not ready for a move to his home country.
“I feel like I still have a few good years left abroad. If I move to Denmark, it would feel like focusing a lot on family and winding down my career, and that’s fine, but I’m not there yet.
Not at all. It’s only about football and where I am now. I’ve spent many years abroad, so moving home would feel like moving to an entirely new country. We’re not there yet,” he continued.
Eriksen is currently on international duties with his country, as they prepare for their crucial two-legged UEFA Nations League quarterfinal match against Portugal.
