Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has fired back at Rwanda’s Djihad Bizimana over the Amavubi skipper’s comments concerning Nigeria’s attacking threat ahead of their highly anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers clash on Friday.
Nigeria is home to some of the best forwards in African football, with the vast majority of these players making waves in some of the biggest clubs across Europe. The likes of Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Umar Sadiq and Tolu Arokodare head into this tie on the back of a scintillating run of form for their respective clubs.
However, while speaking to reporters earlier today, Amavubi captain Bizimana confidently dismissed the Super Eagles’ firepower, insisting that Rwanda had nothing to worry about as they boast a better record from the two nation’s most recent encounters.
In his words; “There’s no worry, there’s nothing to worry about. We already met them twice, and I think most of them are here, so there is nothing to worry about.”
Bizimana’s confidence is understandable, bearing in mind Rwanda’s 2-1 victory at the Godswill Akpabio stadium back in November 2024. Nevertheless, Troost-Ekong has provided a response to the comments of his opposite number.
“Starting off, I think we have, maybe, one of the best attacking players (forwards) in the world, not just in Africa,” the Super Eagles captain said in his pre-match press conference.
“I think every team in Africa is difficult to play against away from home.
“We respect Rwanda, we prepare for them so I am happy to hear they believe they can handle our team, if that’s their preparation, so we would see tomorrow in the game.”
