Heartland FC forward Chukwuma Agor is optimistic his side can secure a win when they host rivals Abia Warriors on Sunday.
The 20-year old scored in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, as the Naze Millionaires secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over their opponents.
Ahead of Sunday’s Oriental Derby, Agor is confident his side can put an end to their poor form that has seen them win just once in their last seven matches, while also securing back to back wins over their neighbors.
“Absolutely! That’s the goal,” he stated. “I’m here to contribute, and everyone is determined to finish strong.
Heartland usually performs well in derbies, and I’ve participated in a few myself. We’re heading into this weekend’s match with a lot of confidence, and I believe we can mirror our success from Umuahia. Why not?
The derby is significant for the fans, and I feel that passion too, so we’re really motivated. Every player is giving their all, and the staff is fully committed to ensuring we finish as high as possible”, the 20-year old winger added.
Heartland are currently 17th on the Nigerian Premier Football League standings with 34 points, and will need a result to boost their chances of remaining in the top flight at the end of the season.
Agor, who has scored three goals in 18 matches played in the league this season, has stated that the support of the fans is essential to ensure a return to their status as one of the best teams in the Nigerian league.
“It’s been incredible. This season, the connection has grown even stronger. The interaction between players and fans is really motivating us”, he added.
“Big shoutout to all the guys. Everyone is playing their part, including the staff, for everything we’ve achieved. We’ve put in a lot of effort during this time, and it’s starting to pay off. As we enter the crucial part of the season, we all need to be ready to step up and contribute.”
Heartland face two must-win matches this week as they first host fifth-placed Abia Warriors later tomorrow, before facing fellow strugglers Sunshine Stars on Wednesday.
