NPFL: Coach Ikhenoba delighted with Bendel Insurance win over Sunshine Stars

Bendel Insurance head coach Greg Ikhenoba has expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance following their 1-0 win over relegation-threatened Sunshine Stars on Saturday.

The Matchday 30 encounter at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin ended in a slim victory for the Benin Arsenals, as they continued their rise up the Nigerian Premier Football League standings.

24-year old forward Kayode Oke Solomon, scored the only goal of the encounter in the 20th minute as Bendel Insurance bounced back with a win, following last week’s 1-0 loss at Abia Warriors.

Speaking after the important win as they closed the gap on the top four to just a single point, Greg Ikhenoba noted that the win was another huge step towards securing a continental ticket at the end of the season.

He said: “I thank God we got the three points. It was what we planned to get. I thank the management for standing behind us and thank the boys for their resilience.

As a matter of fact, some of my boys were fatigued. They needed some rest because we have been very busy, playing two or three games within a week and making long-distance journeys.

Last week, we travelled to Umuahia for Abia Warriors and the next day from there to Lafia for the Round of 64 FA Cup. So, I must commend my boys they have done well”, he continued.

Bendel Insurance now occupy the sixth position on the NPFL standings with 44 points ahead of their next match away at Kano Pillars on Wednesday, while Sunshine Stars dropped to 19th on the log, in danger of relegation to the second tier.
