Ligue 1 giants Lyon plotting summer move for Nigerian defender

French Ligue 1 heavyweights Olympique Lyonnais have set their sights on highly-rated Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu and are looking to lure him to Lyon in the summer transfer window.

Ogbu has been in impressive form for Czech Republic’s 1. Liga giants Slavia Prague this season. He has made 20 league appearances for the 1. Liga leaders as they look to reclaim their league crown from arch rivals Sparta Prague.

The 25-year-old defender’s performances recently earned him his first international call-up with the Nigeria national team. Despite failing to make his debut, Ogbu was named on the substitutes bench for both of the Super Eagles’ games against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

In addition to earning him a maiden international call-up, Ogbu’s impressive displays have attracted attention from top clubs across Europe. According to Africafoot, Lyon have set their sights on Ogbu as a suitable candidate to reinforce their defense ahead of next season.

The report claims that Les Gones contacted the Super Eagles defender’s entourage several weeks ago to register their intentions and the Ligue 1 side have made huge progress in terms of convincing him to swap Prague for Lyon.

Africafoot further reveals that Ogbu has already agreed personal terms with the seven-time Ligue 1 champions with negotiations on a possible transfer fee now ongoing between the two clubs involved.

In the midst of all these, Ogbu’s primary focus will certainly be on helping Slavia Prague reclaim their 1. Liga crown. Then the Nigeria international can now shift his full attention to sorting out his future and deciding the next best course of action for his rapidly blooming career.
