Rashford delighted to end goal drought in Aston Villa’s FA Cup win over Preston

England international Marcus Rashford was pleased to open his account for Aston Villa in their 3-0 win over Preston North End in the FA Cup quarterfinal on Sunday, stating he has more to offer the club.

The 27-year old joined Villa in January from Manchester United on loan till the end of the season, after falling out of favor under Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim who questioned his attitude in training.

Rashford has impressed in his short stint under Unai Emery, providing a lethal combination in attack with Spaniard Marco Asencio.

The forward opened the scoring with a neat finish in the 58th minute and added a second five minutes later when he calmly slotted in from the penalty spot.

“It’s a great feeling, I feel like I’ve been getting fitter and playing better football since I’ve been here. It’s always nice for a forward to get a goal so hopefully it continues”, Rashford stated.

He was recalled to the England National team in Thomas Tuchel’s first squad for last week’s victories over Albania and Latvia, and his brace ended a run of 14 games without a goal in all competitions for both club and country.

Jacob Ramsey sealed the win with a third for the Midlands club in the 71st minute, securing their spot in next month’s semifinals at Wembley.

“We have to take it one game at a time and give it 100 per cent on the pitch and see where it takes us. We’re very ambitious.

Step by step. I think I can still get fitter. I missed a lot of football before joining up with them. My body feels good and I’m enjoying my football for now”, he continued.

Aston Villa will face French champions Paris Saint Germain in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals next month, before making the trip to Wembley to face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semifinal.
