Aston Villa provide update on possible permanent transfer for Rashford

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has revealed that the Birmingham based club have yet to make a decision concerning the permanent signing of Marcus Rashford who is currently on loan from Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Rashford swapped Manchester for Birmingham in the January transfer window after being frozen out of first team action by United head coach Ruben Amorim. The 27-year-old winger looks to have received a new lease of life at Aston Villa having previously struggled with poor form at Old Trafford.

Since departing his boyhood club, Rashford has settled in well at Villa Park. He has scored twice and provided four assists in 10 appearances across all competitions, with his two goals coming as recently as Sunday when Aston Villa dispatched EFL Championship side Preston North End 3-0 to reach the FA Cup semi-finals.

Rashford’s loan deal includes an option for the Villans to sign him on a permanent basis for £40m. This offer looks increasingly attractive for Villa given the winger’s rejuvenation under Emery, however, when asked if the club plans to trigger that option, the Spaniard confirmed that no decision had been made.

“Not yet,” Emery said to reporters following his side’s FA Cup quarter final triumph on Sunday.

“The most important thing is the challenge now and this afternoon, recovering and then preparing for the match against Brighton. A decision about each individual player, it is to get the best of them and the best of us. We don’t want to waste time thinking about it.”

Whether or not Villa will eventually sign Rashford remains to be seen. In the meantime, they’ll be happy to rely on his talents as they continue to push for a top four finish in the Premier League while also eyeing a potential FA Cup triumph.
