Manchester United have received a huge boost with head coach Ruben Amorim confirming that the Red Devils will have key defensive duo Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro available for selection ahead of a crunch Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest.
Maguire was sidelined for the Arsenal and Leicester City matches, along with both legs of United’s quarter-final tie against Real Sociedad, due to a calf injury. Meanwhile, Yoro sustained a foot injury against Arsenal earlier this month and was ruled out of United’s subsequent wins over Sociedad and Leicester prior to the international break.
Both Maguire and Yoro had established themselves as crucial players in Amorim’s back three system before their injury setbacks with the Portuguese manager forced to rely on the likes of Ayden Heaven, Victor Lindelof and Noussair Mazraoui to partner Mathijs de Ligt at the heart of defence.
Fortunately for the Red Devils, both players returned to first team training last week and are now set to be in contention for a place in the team that will take on high-flying Forest at City Ground. Amorim confirmed this while going through the team news ahead of the game.
“Luke [Shaw] is not ready yet. We are starting doing some drills with the team,” the head coach said, off the back of the full-back’s own return to training.
“Mason [Mount] is feeling better, he was already on the bench in the last game. I think Kobbie [Mainoo] is almost returning also but not ready for this game. Jonny Evans is recovering, Ayden [Heaven] is recovering.
“Who else? Licha [Martinez] is out. Maguire is ready to go to the game. Yoro, yes.”
