Brazil identify Ancelotti and Jesus as possible Dorival successor

Brazil have identified Real Madrid head coach,Carlo Ancelotti and Al-Hilal manager Jorge Jesus as possible replacement for Dorival Junior following recent World Cup qualifier defeat.

The Selecao parted ways with Dorival Junior last week following their crunching 4-1 defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Argentina in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying match. Brazil are now in search of a replacement for Dorival Junior and have narrowed in on Real Madrid boss Ancelotti and Al-Hilal head coach Jesus.

The CBF are looking to secure a deal with either of the targets before the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup starts on June 14 as the Selecao are scheduled to face Ecuador and Paraguay on June 4 and 9, respectively, in crucial World Cup qualifiers. As of now, both Ancelotti and Jesus will head to the United States with their respective clubs for the tournament.

Ancelotti is contracted with Los Blancos until 2026 and it is unlikely that Los Blancos will be willing to part ways with the Italian coach right before the Club World Cup. However, Jesus is reportedly keen on taking the job as his current deal expires after the competition. The 70-year old seems to be the more viable option for Brazil at the moment, but a source inside CBF told The Athletic that Ancelotti is considered “the president’s dream”.

For now, the 65-year-old will focus on Madrid’s 2024-25 campaign, where they are still in contention to win a treble. They will be back in action on Tuesday as the club face Real Sociedad in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final fixture.
