Huge blow for Man City as Guardiola reveals Haaland’s duration for recovery

Manchester City have suffered a massive blow in their bid to secure a top four finish this season after head coach Pep Guardiola confirmed that striker Erling Haaland will be out of action for between five to seven weeks.

Haaland’s unfortunate spell on the sidelines comes as a result of an ankle injury he suffered during City’s 2-1 win over Bournemouth in the Emirates FA Cup on Sunday. Haaland got himself on the scoresheet at the Vitality Stadium before being forced off in the 61th minute.

The 24-year-old goal-machine was later seen leaving the South Coast on crutches before the club announced that he would see a specialist on Monday to ascertain the level of damage on his ankle as well as determine an appropriate recovery period.

City head coach Guardiola has now confirmed on Tuesday that the former Borussia Dortmund  will be out until early May, meaning he will miss their FA Cup semi-final tie against Nottingham Forest as well as several Premier League matches.

“They told me the doctors say between five to seven weeks,” Guardiola told reporters as he previewed Wednesday’s meeting with Leicester.

“So hopefully by the end of the season and the Club World Cup he will be ready. Sometimes there are years when these kinds of things happen. It has happened all season.

“With all the injuries we have had this season, I’m so sorry for them and for Erling as well. So I wish him a good recovery, as speedy as possible, then come back.”

Haaland was sidelined for nearly two months last season, yet City remained unbeaten in 11 matches (10 wins, one draw) and secured the Club World Cup. They should be confident of navigating the rest of the season without missing him too much.
