Everton manager David Moyes has praised Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah for his exceptional performances this season ahead of the Merseyside derby on Wednesday.
The Egyptian forward has been on scintillating form for the Reds in their quest for a first league title since the 2019/20 season.
Salah has scored 32 goals and provided 22 assists in 43 matches in all competitions this season, and is on course to match Arsenal legend Thierry Henry’s record of four English league golden boots.
Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s match against Liverpool, Moyes was full of praise for the 32-year old recognizing his influence on the Reds performance in the league.
“He’s having an unbelievable season for Liverpool,” the Everton boss said.
“Let’s be fair, we’re talking about one of the top Premier League players of this generation. It’s not just this season; he’s been so consistent over most seasons.
He’s scored plenty of goals, plenty of assists, he’s very rarely injured. He’s been a great player for Liverpool.”
Salah is out of contract in the summer with reports linking him with a move to Saudi Arabia to join giants Al Hilal, with no talks of an extension agreed with Liverpool.
Moyes also recognized the importance of the derby, emphasizing the gulf in quality between both sides who are on opposing ends of the league table.
“We might be further away from Liverpool than we’ve ever been at the moment,” he said in a news conference on Tuesday.
I think by the time we [Moyes and his staff] left here 12 years ago, I think we were much closer to Liverpool. We were competing in the same areas of the league at the time. I think at the moment it’s probably the biggest gulf between the two clubs”, he added.
The Toffees travel to Anfield to face the league leaders on Wednesday night before hosting Arsenal three days later, in two matches that could determine the champions at the end of the campaign.
