Liverpool manager Arne Slot has backed club talisman Mohamed Salah to rediscover his lethal edge following a run of four consecutive games without a single goal contribution as the Reds suffered a shock 3-2 defeat to Fulham on Sunday.
Slot’s men struck first at Craven Cottage, with Ryan Gravenberch setting up Alexis Mac Allister for the opener in the 14th minute. However, a series of defensive lapses saw the home side respond with three goals in just 14 first-half minutes courtesy of Ryan Sessegnon, Alex Iwob and Rodrigo Muniz. Luis Díaz pulled one back in the 72nd minute, but it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback.
Salah, who has been in stellar form for most of the season, endured a rare off-day. The Egyptian forward has racked up 27 league goals this term but struggled to make an impact against Fulham. He registered just one shot and had only three touches inside the Cottagers’ penalty area.
Nevertheless, Slot is keeping calm about the experienced winger’s situation as he believes that there is no cause for alarm.
“His numbers were not normal [when he was scoring]. Now he hasn’t scored in four games,” he told BBC Sport.
“But the good thing about Mo is sometimes he doesn’t play a good game, and he can still score a goal. I don’t think he’s now in a place where he cannot score goals anymore.
“He knows what kind of player he is, we have to bring him as much as we can in those positions. Mo will show up again, I don’t worry about that at all.”
