MLS or Saudi Arabia: De Bruyne’s likely destination revealed

Manchester City’s mercurial midfielder Kevin De Bruyne announced last week that he will depart the Etihad after a ten-year trophy-laden spell and a report revealing his potential next destination has now emerged.

De Bruyne, a Chelsea reject, made his return to the Premier League in 2015, signing for Pep Guardiola’s Man City. Since then, the Belgian playmaker has gone on to establish himself as one of the best midfielders to ever grace England’s first division.

He has notched 106 goals and provided 167 assists in Sky Blue and helped Guardiola’s dominant Cityzens to a haul of six Premier League crowns, five Carabao Cups, two FA Cups and a UEFA Champions League triumph.

However, De Bruyne’s fitness and form problems have steadily reduced his impact for Man City over the last few months, and the Belgium international is now preparing to leave England after months of relentless media speculation.

Reports have long linked De Bruyne with a potential move to MLS side San Diego, with speculation starting as far back as May last year. At the same time, many have suggested a highly lucrative transfer to the wealthy Saudi Pro League as a potential option.

However, according to The Athletic, Inter Miami, who already have stars like Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba on their roster, actually hold De Bruyne’s MLS discovery rights. This system gives Miami the first opportunity to negotiate with the Belgian should he choose to move to the league.

A potential move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, where the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo now plies his trade, could also be on the cards due to De Bruyne’s widely known desire to play alongside the former Real Madrid star.

While fans continue to speculate about his next destination, the City skipper will focus on helping his team salvage their shockingly abysmal season by securing an FA Cup triumph and a Champions League spot for next season.
