Sporting CP head coach Rui Borges hinted at a potential summer exit for highly sought-after striker Viktor Gyokeres after stating that the team must “make the most of their time” with the Swede.
Gyokeres has emerged as one of the most prolific goalscorers in European football since leaving EFL Championship club Coventry City for the Liga Portugal side back in 2023.
The Swede’s tally of 44 goals in just as many appearances this season brings his overall record for Sporting CP to 87 goals in 94 appearances as at the time of writing.
Gyokeres’ blistering goal-scoring form has made him the subject of interest from a host of top class suitors with reported interests from Premier League giants Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.
Amid these speculations, many have tipped the 27-year-old to seal a big move to the Premier League this summer and the words of Sporting’s Borges certainly lends credence to the feeling that this season will be Gyokeres’ last in Portugal.
“Viktor is a player… I think there are no words: it is unlikely that another player of his quality will emerge in our league over the next few years,” Borges told the media. “He is clearly above average.
“Sporting recognised his talent, and here we are. Fortunately, we have him at Sporting. We must make the most of the time we have with him because he is truly exceptional.
“I have said this before, and I will continue to say it: he brings a lot to the team, and his teammates are aware of what he contributes, which is why they look for him during games.
“The collective effort also plays a role, as no one can succeed alone. Viktor is a game-changer, and he will continue to be, whether with us or elsewhere. His quality is undeniable; it is phenomenal.”
