Egyptian star Mohammed Salah is closing in on a new two-year contract at Liverpool.
The 32-year-old had reached the final months of his contract at Anfield sparking speculations of a potential move from the club. However, there has been a breakthrough in speculations with Salah set to commit to a new deal which keeps him at the club until June 2027.
The Athletic reported on December 8 that Liverpool had made an opening contract offer to Salah. At that stage, despite certainty around Anfield that the 32-year-old would stay, an agreement was not made nor close and uncertainty loomed around his long-term future.
Salah had revealed that he was “probably more out than in” when he stopped for a rare post-match chat with reporters following Liverpool’s 3-2 win over Southampton on November 24, adding that he was disappointed a formal offer had not been made at that point.
The Egypt international is enjoying another fine season for Liverpool and has scored 32 goals in all competitions. Since joining Liverpool from Roma in 2017, he has won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup. With 243 goals in 394 appearances, Salah is the club’s third all-time top scorer.
Liverpool are top of the Premier League and return to action on Sunday against West Ham United.
