Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers has expressed that the team is entirely focused on overcoming Paris Saint-Germain in the UCL quarterfinal second leg on Tuesday.
After losing 3-1 in France last week, the English side must mount a strong comeback to stand any chance of advancing to the semifinals.
Speaking in the prematch conference ahead of the important matchup, Rogers who scored Villa’s only goal in the first leg, is confident his side can do the impossible despite heading into the encounter as massive underdogs.
“There’s massive belief in the dressing room. I know most people wrote us off before this tie. But in the first leg, we gave a good account of ourselves.
Of course, there are things that we needed to improve on but we know [PSG] now. There is a task on our hands”, the 22-year old stated.
“Under the lights at home in the quarter-finals of this competition, there’s not many better places to be.”
Aston Villa are fresh off a massive 3-0 win over relegated Southampton in the English Premier League, in a huge boost to their European aspirations ahead of next season.
The Midlands club have had a hugely impressive season, also in the semifinals of the FA Cup with a clash against Crystal Palace still to come later this month.
“We are just focused on this game and facing PSG and trying to win the game. If you get ahead of yourself and think too much about the occasion, that’s when your best performances do not come out”, Rogers added.
“I don’t think it’s something we have to worry about at the moment.”It anyone is going to turn it around, it is gong to be us. It’s down to us and we are excited for that challenge.
It’s going to be difficult and I am not saying that we are going to do it, but we will definitely give it a shot and go out there to win.”
Aston Villa will hope to come out victorious later on Tuesday against PSG with the winner of the tie going on to face Arsenal or Real Madrid in the semifinal.
