Newcastle United eyeing summer deal for red-hot Nigerian striker

Newcastle United are reportedly considering a move for red-hot Belgium based Nigerian striker Toluwalase Arokodare in the summer transfer window.

Arokodare, who was previously flying under the radar despite putting up decent numbers during stints with Valmiera and Amiens, has entered the spotlight thanks to his scintillating goal-scoring form at KRC Genk.

The 24-year-old striker has set the Belgian Pro League on fire this season, making 27 goal contributions so far hitting the back of the net on twenty occasions and supplying the assist for another seven.

His impressive displays earned him a sit on the plane for Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe with the Lagos-born attacker going on to make his international debut in a 2-0 victory over the Amavubi and then earn his second cap in a 1-1 draw with the Warriors.

Now, according to Africa Foot, Arokodare’s impressive form has captured the attention of Premier League statement makers Newcastle United and a move to the English top-flight could potentially be on the cards.

The Magpies are said to be in search of a suitable replacement for English striker Callum Wilson. Wilson’s contract at St. James’ Park is set to expire this summer and the former Bournemouth hitman is expected to depart Tyneside afterwards.

With an asking price of only €17 million for his services, Newcastle consider Arokodare to be one of the more viable options to bolster their frontline among a list of other candidates that includes Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Given Arokodare’s impressive campaign, it is very likely that he will secure a big move this summer. Whether that move will be to Newcastle United or elsewhere remains to be seen.
