Inter suffer injury blow ahead of UCL semi-final against Barcelona

Marcus Thuram has suffered an injury and could miss Inter Milan’s Champions League semi-final against Barcelona.

Thuram was last in action when he helped Inter overcome Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday night. However, his participation against the La Liga giants has been thrown into doubt after his side confirmed he is struggling with muscle fatigue in his left thigh.

The Frenchman is likely to be rested this weekend and could also miss the second leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final against AC Milan, but he could be available to take on Roma before the first outing with Barca, as per reports by Sky Italia.

Inter are well placed in their quest for Champions League glory after knocking out Bayern but still have work to do to secure the Serie A title.

Simone Inzaghi’s side are three points clear at the top of the table, with Thuram contributing 14 league goals, and have a tough assignment on Sunday when they visit Bologna. Inter is expected to rest Thuram, with Marko Arnautovic the expected replacement up front.

A statement from Inter reads: “This morning, Marcus Thuram underwent medical exams at the Istituto Humanitas di Rozzano.

“The tests revealed fatigue in the adductor muscles of his left thigh. His condition will be assessed day by day.”

Thuram will hope to be fit in time for the first leg against Barcelona as he looks to add to his three Champions League goals so far this season. While he recovers, Inter will hope to advance their pursuit of silverware in upcoming clashes with Bologna and AC Milan.
