Slot breaks silence on Virgil van Dijk’s future in Liverpool

Arne Slot has expressed his opinion with regards to the new contract signed by Virgil van Dijk, following the path of his teammate, Mohamed Salah to extend his stay at Anfield.

The 33-year-old, following the footstep of his teammate, Salah, committed his career to the English top-flight club till the end of Summer, 2027, having laid to rest the contract drama this week.

While preparing for Sunday’s showdown with Leicester City where his side could win the Premier League title, the Dutch gaffer gave his words to show his delight as the big guns in the club just extended their stay in the Merseyside.

“It tells you that we want to keep our best players,” he retorted.

“The players that have played a great season for so many years in row. When we are able to keep them as free agents, it tells the ambitions we have for the upcoming years. I’m really happy both [Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah] extended.

“Virgil was so important, defensively and offensively, in and around dressing room. A great personality and a great football player.”

Last week, the Dutch international announced that he looks forward to a huge Summer this year for the English outfit.

Slot’s side desire to win the league could be sealed this weekend should Arsenal lose on the road at Ipswich and the English top-flight club defeat the Foxes at the King Power Stadium.
