Liverpool’s Slot plays down winning League title at Leicester City

Arne Slot maintains his stand of not thinking about the prospect of clinching the Premier League title this weekend.

Defeat to Arsenal at the hands of Ipswich on Sunday could see his team win a record-equalling 20th top-flight trophy with victory against the Foxes.

However, the Dutch gaffer sticks to his ‘one game at a time’ tactic and alleges he has not thought about the dream of possible results.

“The honest answer is no. I’m not sure you believe me but that is the honest answer,” he remarked.

“My whole life, I’m living in moment, in the day, and I’m looking backwards a lot and I’m not looking forwards a lot because it’s the type of person that I am.

“People constantly tell you: ‘Try to enjoy it, try to enjoy the whole journey,’ but the only thing you are thinking about as a manager is: ‘At the weekend, there is a game coming up as well and we need to win that’.

“So, maybe that’s one of the reasons: because I’m already so long in football that you get used to the fact of living day-by-day and trying to influence day-by-day.”

The 46-year-old’s win percentage across all competitions is a remarkable 78.79% surpassing former Anfield managers like Kenny Dalglish and Jurgen Klopp.

He continued: “My thoughts are, as always, on Leicester and on our team: how to improve, what can we do better.

“So, during the start of the week, we have worked on that a lot and now we are working towards Leicester.”

The Anfield giants head to the King Power Stadium powered by the news of Virgil van Dijk penning a new two-year deal, a week after Mohamed Salah did the same.
