Wolves boss Vitor Pereira has praised his player’s resilience as they secured their Premier League status with a narrow 1-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.
The 56-year old took over in December with the club languishing in 19th position, but has now ensured they maintain their top-flight status with the shock win at Old Trafford.
Second half substitute Pablo Sarabia’s exceptional free-kick secured all three points against the lackluster Red Devils, as Wolves made it five consecutive wins in all competitions.
Speaking after the match, Pereira praised his side’s soul and spirit, as they piled more misery on Ruben Amorim Manchester United.
He said: “It was not our best match. We were a bit reactive. Technically and tactically, we know we can play better football.
But when you cannot play the football we’re in conditions to play we need to play with our soul, our spirit and this is what I saw in the game. Believing, believing, believing and the moment we have the chance we score.”
The Portuguese has seen an upturn in the club’s fortunes and has led them to consecutive wins over two of the league’s big six- Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.
Wolves are up to 38 points on the standings, 17 points ahead of 18th-placed Ipswich Town who were thrashed 4-0 at home by Arsenal, with five games remaining.
“I think they have quality. We have quality in the squad. When we arrived the confidence was not in a high level. We start to give them confidence, a tactical plan and the results help to build something. We are building something good for the future”, he concluded.
The West-Midlands club will hope to make it six wins in a row when they host troubled Leicester City at the Molineux next Saturday.
