Inter Milan head coach Simone Inzaghi believes his side are still on course in the race for this season’s Serie A title despite suffering a narrow defeat at Bologna on Sunday.
Inzaghi’s men went into Sunday’s game with a three point cushion at the top of the Serie A standings but saw that cushion wiped off as they suffered their fourth defeat of the current campaign.
Bologna left it late with second half substitute Ricardo Orsolini scoring with an acrobatic effort in the fourth minute of stoppage time to earn the hosts a hard fought victory.
Inter Milan are now level on points (71) with Napoli at the summit but retain first place thanks to their superior goal difference.
“It was a balanced match, with the goalkeepers intervening little,” Inzaghi told the reporters.
“We played an organised match, with great sacrifice. In the second half, we could have developed some occasions better, and then the final episode penalised us.
“However, we must not think that this defeat could affect our path. I’m happy with the performance because I thought that against a team like Bologna we could have risked suffering more.
“I’m disappointed with the result, but Bologna is a team of absolute value.”
In addition to the Scudetto, the Nerazzurri also remain in the running for Champions League and Coppa Italia glory. They have a chance to orchestrate a repeat of their 2010 continental treble winning campaign.
With five games left to play in Serie A this term, Inzaghi’s men will need to be at the absolute top of their game to avoid any more slip ups that could harm their Scudetto defense.
