Sergio Pellicer has spoken about the transfer rumours linking Antonio Cordero to Newcastle United ahead of the team’s encounter away from home today.
The English top-flight outfit have emerged as the frontrunners to sign the Segunda Division side’s highly rated winger during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Despite the expiration of the 18-year-old’s contract in June, he is yet to accept the renewal offer that would keep him at La Rosaleda.
Recent reports from Spain suggest that the Spaniard has already agreed to join the Magpies on a free transfer, with a five-year deal said to be in place for the talented youngster.
As the White and Blues prepare for a clash against SD Eibar in their upcoming duel, the 51-year-old, when questioned about reports linking the Spain U19 star with a move to the English top-tier side, confirmed he has spoken with the young winger. The head coach emphasized that Cordero remains fully committed to the Anchovies, despite the ongoing transfer rumours.
“I’m not going to talk about the individual. It’s a collective moment. I see that everyone wants it and trains as we ask. I see the whole group is aware,” he said.
“I talked to him and he’s 100%. Everything else escapes me. Some of them, they don’t know it, but they are going to score a very important goal this season.”
The promising forward has so far netted five times with five assists in 33 matches. He would be looking to add to his tally as his club travel on the road to SD Eibar later today.
