Tottenham’s Romero open to Laliga move

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has expressed desire to play in the Spanish Laliga in the future amid speculations of a transfer away from the club.

The 26-year old defender joined the North London club initially on loan from Italian side Atalanta in 2021, before sealing a £42 million permanent deal a year later.

The Argentine defender has struggled for consistency this season with several injury concerns and has been linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, with his current contract expiring in 2027.

“LaLiga is the one [league] left to play in and I would love to, to tell you the truth,” Romero told TYC Sports. “I would love to play there because it’s the league I’m missing.”

I would like to win it but it depends on many things. After that, once the championship finishes, we’ll see.”

Romero has featured just 23 times for Ange Postecoglou’s side this season, suffering timeout of action with injuries and started the 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Monday before he was replaced at halftime by Kevin Danso.

“The truth is I haven’t spoken to my representative yet but I’m open to anything,” he said. “In my head, I always [think about] growing, also [about] going to new places to keep growing but I don’t want to talk about that yet because there’s a few months left in the season”, he continued.

“Above all, I try live the day to day. There are almost two months until the championship ends and in my head it’s always [about] competing to the maximum, trying to finish in the best possible way.”

Romero and Spurs are next in action on Sunday when they visit Liverpool before hosting Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt, in the first leg of their Europa League semifinal.
