Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has expressed regrets over the club’s underwhelming campaign which has seen them drop down into the championship.
The Foxes were promoted to the Premier League after winning the EFL championships last season, but a reversal of fortunes saw their relegation confirmed after a 1-0 loss to runaways leaders Liverpool on Sunday.
Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s side have lost their past nine home league games in the league without scoring, an English record, and have scored only 27 goals all campaign in the league.
Vardy, who was part of the club’s shock heroic title winning campaign in 2016, criticized his performance and that of his teammates in the entire campaign, expressing his apologies to the club supporters.
“At this point, I don’t even know what to say. No words I have can ever express my feelings of anger and sadness with the way this season has gone,” the 38-year-old said in a post on social media on Monday.
“There are no excuses. Collectively, as players and as a club, we failed. There is simply no hiding, and I refuse to entertain any suggestion of doing so.”
Leicester City have won just four league matches all season, with their last a shock 2-1 win over struggling Tottenham Hotspur in January.
“Having been at this club for so long, we’ve experienced so many highs and successes — and this season has been nothing but miserable and for me personally, a total embarrassment. It hurts, and I know you’re feeling it too. To the fans: I’m sorry. Sorry we haven’t performed, and sorry we end the 2025 season with such a s–t show”, Vardy added.
The Foxes are languishing in 19th place in the Premier League standings and face a tough trip to the Molineux next Saturday to face Wolves, hoping to end their winless streak.
