Ex-Tottenham Hotspur player identified as potential Postecoglou replacement

Premier League strugglers Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly identified one of their former players, Scott Parker, as a potential replacement for current manager Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham Hotspur have endured a terrible campaign in the Premier League this season. The Lillywhites find themselves languishing in 16th position on the standings after managing just 37 points from 33 rounds of matches.

Their disappointing record of 18 defeats in the league this season is the fourth highest. Only the bottom three, Ipswich Town (20), Leicester City (23) and Southampton (26) have lost more games this season.

Understandably, Postecoglou has come under immense criticism for overseeing such an abysmal campaign and the likelihood of the Australian boss getting the boot at the end of the season is increasing with every poor result.

As per reports Brentford’s Thomas Frank, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola and Fulham’s Marco Silva have all been mentioned as potential successors to the Spurs boss but according to Mail Sport, current Burnley boss Scott Parker has now emerged as another contender.

Parker, a former Spurs player who also spent time coaching in their youth ranks, has led the Clarets back to the Premier League on the back of a strong defensive campaign as they conceded only 15 goals in 44 EFL Championship matches.

The 44-year-old is said to have “admirers” within Tottenham and could come into consideration if Postecoglou is dismissed, though a more attack-oriented manager like Iraola might align better with the club’s ambitions.

Tottenham remain one of the leading contenders to win the Europa League despite their domestic misfortunes. However, it is widely believed that not even a European triumph can save Postecoglou’s job at the North London club.
