Mason Mount sets personal target amid Manchester United struggles

Mason Mount wants to be available for Manchester United throughout the remainder of this season following persistent injury setbacks that have hindered him from making any meaningful contributions since arriving in 2023.

Mount made a £55 million switch from Chelsea to Old Trafford two seasons ago but the England international has since managed just one goal and one assist in 38 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils.

Mount’s injury struggles at United

His time at United has been ravaged by nagging injury problems with the Cobham academy graduate forced to spend the better majority of his Old Trafford career so far on the sidelines.

The 26-year-old has only recently returned to the playing squad after recovering from a three months spell on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury he suffered during Manchester United’s 2-1 win over local rivals Manchester City back in December.

Mount’s personal target

Mount’s return coincides with United’s push for glory in the Europa League and Champions League qualification. The Englishman is now looking to stay fit and help the Red Devils salvage what is left of their disappointing campaign.

“100%, I need consistency,” he told Manchester United’s official website. “I’m the first one to say I need consistent game time.

“From now until the end of the season, I want to be available for every single game. And hopefully that means we will be playing the [Europa League] final. As a group, that’s our goal.

“We know that we need to be playing in that and do the best we can in the Premier League and try to get as high as we can, and win games, but keep improving.

“We can see small improvements happen in every single game. We’ve had games we’ve lost but felt like we’ve managed them, controlled them, it just didn’t really click. That’s happened a few times. But that’s something we’re working and we focus in on.

“Everything else is slowly building up, but we just need to finish off that final pass, that final finish. So yeah, it’s definitely positive. For me, being back now to the end of the season, that’s all I’d wish for.”

European glory for United despite domestic woes?

While Manchester United’s domestic campaign has been nothing to write home about, they have enjoyed contrasting fortunes on the European front. A semi-final against Athletic Club is all that stands between the Red Devils and a place in the Europa League final.
