As Liverpool get ready for a possibly momentous Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday, Arne Slot, the manager, has urged calm and concentration.
The stakes could not be greater as Liverpool can win the Premier League title with only one point.
Slot stresses ‘business as usual’ despite title hype
The Dutch gaffer recognized the enormity of the occasion during his pre-match press conference early on Friday, but he stressed that his team and personnel are keeping their feet firmly on the ground.
“First of all, that’s a big responsibility because we are aware of the fact that the last time this club won the league it was COVID time,” he said.
“So, everybody is looking forward to Sunday but we know there is still a job to be done, at least one point.
“That’s what we know and hopefully our fans know as well when they come to the stadium, that they support us in the best possible way they can – which is what they have done the whole season – and are aware of the fact that we still need a point.”
History at the door
The 46-year-old is clamoring to be just the fifth manager in history to win the Premier League in his first season in the competition.
The Dutchman realizes running Liverpool entails bringing success, although he might not have expected his first season to go precisely as it did.
“That’s something we are definitely aware of here inside this building. So, it’s a nice game to look forward to but it’s also a responsibility we have for Sunday,” he added.
“First there is a game to be played against a Tottenham side that is playing for something special as well, maybe not in the league but definitely in the Europa League. So, they want to go towards Bodo/Glimt in the best possible prepared way.
“We are only focused on the next opponent and that is Tottenham now. So, we will try to prepare the team the same way we have the whole season and hopefully the team, the players, can bring the energy, the same mentality towards the game as they’ve brought throughout the whole season.
“And the fans, we are expecting from them the same.”
Liverpool One Step Behind Premier League Majesty
The Anfield supporters are looking forward with a breath to a moment fifty from only one more result left between them and the championship. On the whole, though, Slot is grounded and clear because satisfaction this weekend will only come if Liverpool secure the outcome.
Anfield to Celebrate a memorable Day
If Liverpool can not be defeated by Spurs, they will be declared champions on home field, a situation supporters have been hoping for since the title win in 2020 that was affected by COVID.
Slot’s team will be trying to make history, and Anfield will be front and center this Sunday.
