Dele-Bashiru: Lazio star opens up on favorite position

Lazio midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has revealed his favorite role on the pitch for the club, ahead of Monday’s clash against Parma.

The 24-year old secured a season-long loan move to Italy last summer after an impressive year at Turkish side Hatayspor, but has endured a tough spell since his arrival.

The Super Eagles international has been limited to 19 appearances in the league this season contributing to just three goals and one assist, with his last goal contribution coming in the 1-0 win over Atalanta earlier this month.

The Manchester City academy graduate however contributed to four goals in eight Europa League appearances, with the Italian side suffering elimination at the hands of Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt in the quarterfinals.

Speaking ahead of Monday’s Serie A clash in an interview with Sports Boom, Dele-Bashiru remains confident in his abilities to shine at the club, whilst stating his preferred position on the pitch.

“My preferred role would be as a box-to-box midfielder, in the number 8 or 10 positions,” he said.

“Driving of the ball, running off the ball, I can attack well, and defend well also. All around, I’m what you describe as a box-to-box midfielder.”

The Biancocelesti have the opportunity of sealing the Nigerian international’s move on a permanent transfer in the summer, with his physicality and intelligence a key aspect of his game.

“And as long as I’m 100 percent fit and I’ve gotten everything understood tactically, we definitely would have a very good season together,” he added.

The Nigerian who was an unused substitute in the midweek 2-0 win at Genoa, will hope to get the nod from the start when his side host Parma on Monday, with eyes on a UCL qualification at the end of the season.
