Former Chelsea defender Gary Cahill still has clear recollections of clinching the Premier League 10 years later.
As a major contributor to the club’s commanding 2014/15 English title run, the former centre-back reflects on its 10-year anniversary and claims the accomplishment still has a particular place in his heart.
“It’s crazy, isn’t it? The time has flown by. Obviously, I have such fond memories in a Chelsea shirt,” he disclosed in an interview with Chelseafc.com marking the decade celebration.
“When I do interviews, people often ask, ‘What is the favourite trophy that you have won?’ And it is natural to reply with the Champions League in 2012 – which was huge – but close for me was that 14/15 season…. That title win was right up there for me.”
What made that season remarkable?
That season, Chelsea was a machine: unyielding in defence, deadly in offence, and outrightly consistent. At the center of everything, the ex-England international claims that league victory is the result of a dream from childhood.
When asked if winning the trophy was ‘a dream come true’, he replied: “Yeah, it really was. I can’t explain it to you… whoever wins the title deserves to win it because of the consistency you need throughout.
“Winning the Premier League in 2015 was, without doubt, one of my best moments playing football and certainly a dream come true.”
Built like champions?
The London giants topped the table throughout under Jose Mourinho, completing the season with 87 points. While Eden Hazard dazzled the league with match-winning displays, Cahill and John Terry held the defense to only 32 goals surrendered.
With just three matches to go, the Stamford Bridge heroes sealed the title in a close 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace, a moment that sent the Bridge into wild celebration and confirmed the London pride as champions of England.
Reflections on a season to remember
The 2014–15 season was about more than simply winning; it was also about inheritance, identity, and legacy. That team had a profound influence, and Cahill remembers it as clearly as ever.
“In cup competitions, you can sometimes get a bit of luck… but in a Premier League season… to then ultimately go on and win it… it was a dream come true.”
Fans will always remember 2015 as the season the Blues ruled England from start to finish as the six-time English top-flight title winners chase fresh glories with a new generation of stars.
