Osimhen smashes personal record in Galatasaray’s thumping win over Sivasspor

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen was once again in the thick of the action for Turkish Super Lig leaders Galatasaray, netting twice as the Istanbul giants cruised to a commanding 4-1 victory over Sivasspor at RAMS Park.

Osimhen has enjoyed mesmerizing goalscoring form all season, with his ruthlessness in front of goal on full display ever since he dumped Napoli in favour of a loan move to Galatasaray. Heading into the game, the Nigerian marksman already boasted an impressive tally of 31 goals in 36 outings for the club.

How the game panned out

He wasted no time in adding to that tally on Saturday as a goal-blessed first half at RAMS Park produced five goals before the halftime whistle. Osimhen grabbed his 32nd goal of the season in the 15th minute, finding the target from close range before guiding Rolland Szalai’s cross into the back of the net just 15 minutes later for his 33rd.

A ninth minute opener from former Arsenal man Lucas Torreira as well as a Baris Alper Yilmaz stunner, sandwiched between Osimhen’s brace completed Galatasaray’s rout. Meanwhile, Rey Manaj defied the odds of a difficult angle to pull one back for Sivasspor in the 33rd minute but that proved to be the last goal of the game.

Osimhen smashes personal record

With his brace against Sivasspor, Osimhen surpassed his personal best tally of 31 goals in a single season, scored during Napoli’s historic Scudetto winning season. He currently has 33 goals to his name this season and all indicators point to him increasing that tally before the end of the season.

Galatasaray edge closer to Super Lig glory

Galatasaray have temporarily opened an eight point gap over closest rivals Fenerbahce at the summit of the Super Lig standings. Fenerbahce take on Besiktas on Sunday and a win will see Jose Mourinho’s men cut the gap back to five points.

However, with only four games left to play as well as Galatasaray’s impressive run of form, Osimhen and company will fancy themselves to go on and secure a 25th Super Lig crown.
