Former Nigerian international Emmanuel Amuneke has given his thoughts on transfer speculation linking Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy to Spanish giants Barcelona.
What Amuneke said:
“Guirassy is a proven goalscorer who can play for all the top teams in Europe, but can Barcelona sign him? Don’t get me wrong, Guirassy is an excellent goalscorer, and he’s been consistent over the last two or three seasons. I might take him if it were up to me — I admire his qualities. But he’s 29, and Barcelona is building for the long-term future.
When you look closely, Barcelona has shifted its focus to its academy and no longer spends obscene amounts of money to recruit ready-made stars. I don’t think they will go for him. With his contract, Dortmund would likely be asking for upwards of €60 million, if not more. It would work, but it’s unlikely to happen,” he added.
Guirassy’s excellent form
The Guinea international has been one of the most-sought after forwards in the world after first breaking out with an impressive campaign with Stuttgart last season, before switching to Dortmund in July 2024.
The 29-year old has scored 32 goals and provided nine assists in all competitions this season, topping the UCL scorers chart while only Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has more goals than the forward in the Bundesliga.
The former Lille man scored twice in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Wolfsburg as The Black and Yellow continued their push for a UCL spot at the end of the season.
Who will Barcelona sign?
The Catalan giants will look to replace 36-year old Poland striker Robert Lewandowski in the summer, with the likes of Victor Osimhen, Victor Gyokeres and Marcus Rashford being linked with a move to the club.
Guirassy could however prove to be an alternative, with his transfer fee less expensive compared to the other attacking options available on the market.
