Mount scores twice as Man United set up Europa final vs Spurs

England international Mason Mount scored a brace as Manchester United defeated Athletic Bilbao 4-1 in the second leg of their UEL semifinals on Thursday night.

Ruben Amorim’s side advance to the final at the expense of their Spanish opponents after securing a 7-1 aggregate victory.

How the game unfolded

The Red Devils headed into the second leg at Old Trafford on Thursday night with a 3-0 advantage from the first leg, hoping to reach a third major final in the last three seasons.

After a quiet start from both sides, the Spanish Laliga outfit went ahead in the 31st minute courtesy of a stunning strike from Mikel Jauregizar.

Alejandro Garnacho spurned the opportunity to draw the hosts level when he miscued a shot when one-on-one with Bilbao.

However, former Chelsea star Mount, scored to make in 1-1 minutes after coming on before Casemiro put the Red Devils ahead on the night.

Rasmus Hojlund scored a third to put the Manchester United firmly in the final before Mount scored a second of the game and seventh for United in the tie, with a stunner from outside the box.

Mount shines for Man United 

After struggling with injury and consistency since his move from Chelsea in 2023, Mount had his best ever game in a Red Devils jersey with two goals as the English side advanced to the Europa League final.

The 26-year old scored in back to back games, after also finding the back of the net in the weekend’s 4-3 loss to Brentford in the English Premier League.

The England midfielder will hope to continue his recent form into the weekend, as Manchester United host struggling West Ham United on Sunday.

Can Man United win the Europa League 

Despite struggling in the league this season, the Red Devils remain unbeaten in the Europe, with a date against Tottenham Hotspur in the final on the May 21.

Ruben Amorim will hope to emerge victorious in his first major final as United boss, when his side face Ange Postecoglou’s side at San Mames later this month.
