Manchester United have received a huge boost ahead of the Europa League final with injured striker Joshua Zirkzee teasing a potential return to action before the showpiece match at San Mames in Bilbao.
What happened to Zirkzee?
Zirkzee sustained a hamstring injury during United’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United in April, prompting Portuguese boss Ruben Amorim to swiftly confirm that the striker’s season was effectively over.
The 23-year-old has since been sidelined for the past six matches across all competitions, including both legs of the Europa League semi-final against Athletic Club, where United triumphed to secure a spot in the final against EPL rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

What did Zirkzee say?
Zirkzee was recently on a live broadcast phone call with former Bayern Munich teammate Alphonso Davies, who is also facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines with an injury setback of his own.
While on that call, the Netherlands international teased the possibility of making a return to action before the showdown in Bilbao; “I’m trying to be back for the final,” the striker said. “We’ll see what’s possible but it’s going to be difficult.”
What next?
Whether Zirkzee can return in time to play any part in the Europa League final remains to be seen. In the meantime, Manchester United will be looking to throw everything they’ve got at this final.
The Red Devils will face off against a Spurs side that have proven to be their bane this season. Amorim’s men have met the North Londoners three times and suffered three defeats. They will be relishing the chance to exact revenge on such a grand stage.
