Manchester City are reportedly looking to poach Spanish midfielder Dani Olmo from Barcelona as Pep Guardiola’s side commence preparations for life without veteran midfield maestro Kevin De Bruyne.
A huge gap to fill
Kevin De Bruyne has been the creative engine behind Manchester City’s success for nearly a decade, delivering unmatched vision, precision, and leadership from midfield.
His expected departure at the end of the season marks the end of an era and leaves the club with a significant gap to fill. Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz was initially seen as the ideal replacement but growing links with Bayern Munich have forced City to consider other options.
Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Larsson are reportedly on their radar, but it is Olmo who now tops their wishlist, according to Relevo.

City’s long-standing interest in Olmo
During the January transfer window, City were among several clubs credited with interest in Dani Olmo, particularly when a potential free transfer from Barcelona seemed possible due to the ongoing registration issues at the Catalan club.
Guardiola is reportedly a huge admirer of the 27-year-old and views him as his primary midfield target for the summer. In fact, it’s now believed that the Spanish international has overtaken Florian Wirtz as the top name on Guardiola’s shortlist.
Can this deal be done?
Despite Man City’s seeming prioritization of Olmo’s arrival, the 27-year-old himself could potentially prove to be the biggest stumbling block if an offer eventually does arrive from the Premier League club.
Olmo’s love for Barca, a club where he spent his formative years as a footballer, is no secret. It will certainly take a lot of convincing to lure the Euro 2024 winner to England. Besides, the Blaugrana are happy to have him and will be under no serious pressure to cut ties as his contract runs until 2030.
