Casemiro confident Ancelotti will thrive as Brazil coach

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro believes new Brazil Carlo Ancelotti is the perfect fit for the country.

The Brazilian midfielder who played under Ancelotti for three seasons, winning two UCL titles and one Laliga crown, believes the arrival of the Real Madrid manager is going to revolutionize Brazilian football.

Ancelotti’s arrival at Brazil

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced that the Italian will take over as coach of the national team on the May 26, becoming the country’s first-ever foreign coach.

The love story between Brazil and Ancelotti started after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, with the 65-year old favoring a stay in Spain over joining the five-times World champions.

Ancelotti will now replace Dorival Junior who was dismissed after a humiliating 4-1 loss to archrival Argentina in March.

What Casemiro said

“After Tite left, I think it had to be him,” the 33-year-old told ESPN Brasil. “Brazil needed professionals like him, Brazil needed a big name like him, someone who commands respect.

This guy is exceptional. This guy is incredible, the way he talks about football, the way he understands football,” Casemiro added.

“Let’s enjoy it, because regardless of whether he wins or loses, when this guy talks about football, he has charisma, a power to make players perform at their best, to get the most out of them, to bring out their best qualities.”

Casemiro who last appeared for the country in 2023, has however not ruled out a return under his former coach.

“It’s difficult to talk about returning to the national team. It’s inevitable when you talk about the greatness of a coach like that, you’re closer to winning. Of course, I’ll say it again, it’s not certain that Brazil will win now.

But when you have a coach of that stature and he goes to the Brazilian national team, of course you feel like it, of course you want to return to the Brazilian national team”, he concluded.

What next for Brazil?

Brazil are currently fourth in Conmebol World cup qualifiers, with the top-six assured of automatic qualification for the 2026 showpiece event in United States, Canada and Mexico.

Ancelotti is expected to resume later this month, with his first official duties the qualifiers in June against Ecuador and Paraguay.
