Maresca voices discontent over Chelsea’s schedule

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has expressed displeasure over his side’s fixture scheduling ahead of the UEFA Conference League final.

The Blues have one league game left this season, before making the trip to Poland for a date with Spanish side Real Betis in the final on the 28th of May.

Chelsea’s Schedule

Chelsea are locked in a tussle with four other teams to secure a top five spot at the end of the season, for a place to represent the country in next season’s UCL.

The Blues face fellow UCL hopefuls Nottingham Forest at City Ground on Sunday 25th before their European final against Betis on the 28th, leaving them with few days to recover and prepare.

What Maresca said

Real Betis’ final Laliga fixture of the season was moved to Friday while Chelsea face Forest in a tough clash on Sunday.

Speaking in an interview, Maresca cited the difference in preparation time for both clubs, suggesting that the Premier League could do a better job in forthcoming years.

“I am not happy, 100%. You cannot allow a team 48 hours more time when they are playing a European final”, he stated.

“I don’t know if it’s the Premier League, LaLiga or UEFA [responsibility] but it is not normal to play a team who has had 48 hours more time than you.

It is not correct. I don’t know who it is but there should be rules, absolutely yes.”

Will Chelsea win the Conference League?

The Blues recorded the biggest win in the competition’s history, thrashing FC Noah 8-0 back in November, and will look to end an impressive European campaign by winning the final.

Enzo Maresca will hope to finish a first season at Stamford Bridge on a high by securing the Conference League title, to make Chelsea the first team to have won all three European club competitions.
