Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson has openly discussed his contract circumstances and personal feelings at the club.
The 33-year-old appeared on the High Performance Podcast to discuss his views on his future, health, and hunger for the game.
Why Wilson is departing Newcastle?
The Englishman’s present deal had a provision for an automatic one-year extension depending on appearances. Regrettably, he did not meet the required number this season.

Although the Magpies have the choice to prolong his contract by another year, no decision has been made public. He appears ready to move on as things now stand.
What did the forward say?
“I’m comfortable now. Financially, thankfully, I’m stable so that’s not an issue. I know I’m still able to provide for my family and put food on the table for them,” he revealed on High Performance Podcast.

“I know my worth and I know my value and I’m still so hungry inside that even though I know Alex [Isak] is scoring goals, I’m still frustrated when the team sheet comes out and I’m not starting so I know I’m not ready to leave football yet.”
The England international has been a consistent attacking threat when fit since arriving from Bournemouth in 2020 for £20 million.
In 129 games, he has scored 49 goals. But regular injuries have sometimes thrown his confidence off.
What next for the striker?
He added: “I’d love to leave football before football leaves me, I’d never let an injury stop me from playing – I think I’ve been fit now four-and-a-half months but I’ve probably only played 250 or 300 minutes and that side of things are frustrating because you don’t want to last few years on your career to fizzle away from you, especially when you’ve worked so hard to get to that point.”
The experienced forward stays driven. He wishes to close robustly and not fade away.
