Barcelona chief name-checks Premier League duo as likely transfer targets

Barcelona sporting director Deco has affirmed the Blaugrana’s interest in Liverpool’s Luis Diaz and Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford ahead of the summer transfer window.

Why Diaz and Rashford?

Diaz is once again on the radar of Barcelona, following a standout season in which he played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s Premier League triumph under Arne Slot.

The Colombian winger has delivered an impressive return, scoring 17 goals and contributing five assists in 49 appearances across all competitions.

Meanwhile, Rashford is also on Barcelona’s radar after a strong loan spell at Aston Villa during the latter half of the season. The England international thrived under Unai Emery, recording four goals and five assists in 17 outings across all competitions.

What did Deco say?

“We like Luis [Díaz], we like [Marcus] Rashford, and we like other players,” the Portuguese sporting director told Catalan radio show RAC1 on Thursday.

“Out of respect, talking about players who are under contract with other clubs is complicated. Whenever we go to the market, there are names we know that could improve the team.”

Who is more likely to join Barcelona?

Barcelona’s transfer priority this summer would be another winger as Hansi Flick looks to bring reliable reinforcements to support Lamine Yamal and Raphinha.

Diaz currently has two years left on his Liverpool contract, while Rashford is reportedly available for around £40million after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim.

Judging by the current circumstances of both players in their respective clubs, a move for Rashford appears to be the most feasible for Barcelona, considering their recent financial struggles.

However, other factors like Liverpool’s asking price and the Blaugrana’s preference will also play a huge role in determining which player eventually joins.
