Bayern Munich are keen on signing Brighton star Kaoru Mitoma as they look for alternatives to an in-demand Florian Wirtz.

As per reports by Sky Sports Germany, Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich view Mitoma as a potential summer signing, should Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sane leave the Bundesliga giants this summer. However, their primary focus remains on securing Wirtz as he has been at the top of the Bavarian club’s wishlist for months, with officials at the Allianz Arena seeing him as a transformative figure for their midfield.

Stiff competition from European powerhouses

Bayern face stiff competition from Premier League powerhouse Liverpool, who have reportedly intensified their pursuit of Wirtz. The midfielder is said to have visited Merseyside recently, touring the club’s facilities and even exploring housing options in the area—a development that has sparked concern within the Bayern camp. Moreover, La Liga giants Real Madrid and another Premier League rival Manchester City have also been linked with the German international.

Mitoma is currently under contract with Brighton until 2027 and he has consistently impressed with his performances for the Seagulls, racking up 10 goals and three assists in 35 Premier League appearances. In fact, Mitoma was nearly pried away from the South Coast in January when Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr launched an audacious £90 million ($112m/€107.5m) bid. However, it was rejected by Brighton, who remain committed to retaining their top talents

What is next for Bayern Munich?

Although Wirtz remains the marquee name on Bayern’s transfer agenda, the club’s leadership has made it clear they are evaluating a wide range of players to cover all scenarios.
