Spurs’ Levy bids Mason farewell as he joins West Brom as manager

Tottenham Hotspur Chairman Daniel Levy has sent a heartfelt to assistant manager Ryan Mason who departed the club.

What happened?

Mason left the Lilywhites to take over as manager of West Bromwich Albion. This move into the next phase of his coaching career sees him sign a three-year contract with the Championship side.

Former Spurs midfielder has been a frequent sight in North London, moving from player to coach after early injury-related retirement.

What Levy said regarding the move?

“Ryan has been an integral part of Tottenham Hotspur for a number of years, both as a player and a coach,” he said.

In his eight-year footballing career with the North London side, the 33-year-old had 53 appearances and managed to score two goals in the English Premier League.

However, after a short time as an interim manager at his former club, he assisted Ange Postecoglou as they lifted the UEFA Europa League this season.

He concluded: “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Ryan for all his dedication and hard work over the years, and we wish him every success for the future.”

Why this change is important?

Ex-England international steps down from his position as Postecoglou’s assistant, where he helped to rebuild Tottenham’s strategic change.

His exit opens a fresh chapter for West Brom, who aim for his top-flight experience and leadership to help them back to the Premier League.
