America issues warning to fans ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup

Vice president of the United States of America JD Vance has sent a strong warning to prospective spectators from all over the world who plan to visit the US ahead of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Why has America issued a warning?

The United States of America is set to co-host the 2026 edition of football’s biggest tournament alongside Mexico and Canada, marking the first time in history that the Mundial will be hosted by three different nations.

Next year’s FIFA World Cup will also feature 48 teams for the first time, a notable increase from the previous total of 32 teams. This expanded tournament is set to be the largest ever edition since its inception.

As opposed to the 64 matches played in each of the last six editions of the World Cup, the 23rd edition will feature 104 games, 60 of which is set to be played in the US including all games from the quarterfinals onwards.

With the United States set to host a large percentage of the Mundial, fans from all over the globe are expected to troop into the country in a bid to experience football’s greatest tournament as well as cheer on their favourite teams.

Asked about the anticipated influx of tourists ahead of the World Cup in a recent interview, JD Vance said;  “Of course everyone is welcome to come and see this wonderful event. 

“We want them to come, we want them to celebrate, we want them to watch the games.

“But when the time is up we want them to go home, otherwise they will have to talk to Secretary Noem,” he concluded, referring to Kristi Noem, the Secretary of Homeland Security.

When is the World Cup?

The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off on June 11, 2026, in Mexico City before the competition comes to the United States. Alongside Mexico, the US and Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Iran and Argentina are the only teams to book their tickets so far.
