New Inter Milan manager Cristian Chivu has stated his ambitions and plans for the club, with eyes for success ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup later this month.
Chivu, 44, was appointed earlier today by the Nerazzurri as a successor to former coach Simone Inzaghi, who joined Al-Hilal after the UCL final defeat to PSG.
Inter appoint Chivu
Inzaghi left his role last week after last month’s embarrassing defeat to PSG in the UEFA Champions League final.
Como manager Cesc Fabregas was the frontrunner for the managerial position, although the Italian side ruled out his exit in an open statement.

Chivu, who had played at Inter during his playing days, was appointed on Monday on a two-year deal.
“In February 2025, Cristian was given his first opportunity to coach a senior side as Parma … He led the Emilians to safety, with the team picking up 16 points from 13 matches under his guidance,” Inter said in a statement.
“Now, Cristian Chivu is beginning the third chapter of his Nerazzurri story. And he’s doing so with the values that have always guided him: dedication, sacrifice and a tireless work ethic.”
What Chivu said
“I am honoured by this role handed to me. I have the same ambition and passion that I had before, so I will try to pass that on to the squad,” Chivu told Inter TV.
“We must do what a team like Inter has to, which is to go all the way, challenge for trophies, and we are ready to do all of it.
We must first of all finish the current season, because it is not over yet. We need to be thoughtful, passionate and ambitions to obtain certain results. We need to be efficient and effective”, he continued.

“The Club World Cup is coming up, so the season is not over. We want to accomplish what a team like Inter is capable of in this competition, which is to go all the way and try to win the trophy.
We need everyone’s contribution, to believe, be enthusiastic about a season that has not yet concluded and look to the next with a lot of positivity”, Chivu concluded.
What next for Inter?
The inexperienced Chivu leads the Nerazzurri to the tournament in the United States, with their campaign expected to begin against Monterrey on June 17.
Inter Milan will then face Urawa Red Diamonds on June 21, before playing their final league game against River Plate on June 25.
