Calvin Bassey lauds impressive season with Fulham

Fulham defender Calvin Bassey has expressed satisfaction with his performances following his impressive season at the English club.

The Super Eagles center-back was an integral part of Marco Silva’s side last season and is optimistic about improving ahead of next season.

What Bassey said

“Making my debut in the Premier League, it’s something I dreamt of as a child. So to achieve that was a huge moment for me, one I truly cherish,” Bassey said.

“Like every footballer, after two or three weeks off, you start missing it. For me, the drive going into a new season is to always be better than the last. That alone should motivate you to become the best version of yourself.”

Bassey’s impressive season

The 25-year old joined Fulham in the summer of 2023 from Ajax Amsterdam and made 32 appearances in his debut campaign, including 29 in the league.

Bassey became a vital part of the Cottagers team last season, making 35 appearances in the Premier League, 34 of which were starts.

The former Rangers man scored two goals, including the opener for his side in their penalty shootout win over Manchester United in the FA Cup fifth round before suffering elimination at the hands of Crystal Palace in the quarterfinal.

The Nigerian international’s only league goal of the season came in the winner in the 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest in February, with Fulham ending 11th on the table.

He was also a key member of the Super Eagles squad, playing a key part as they secured qualification for the African Cup of Nations scheduled to commence in December.
